We are two-thirds the way through development and rehearsals. (Note I say development and rehearsals - we are still creating parts of the show.) Last night was significant for many reasons.
- We landed on a framework that seemed to work for everyone. It's much easier to be excited and create when you're standing on firm ground. It felt llike that finally happened for everyone last night.
- We did a spontaneous writing exercise, and - without reading the text out loud beforehand - made a face-off between two characteres, who alternated reading lines from their text. Line by line, word for word, it worked as an argument between the two characters. I was giggly with excitement for the rest of rehearsal.
- Daveed brought in his rhyming text, which he then orchestrated to drummed and spoken rhythm. We did a simple run through, and everyone just stared at each other with smiles afterwards - it was Diggstastic. If we are creating a soundtrack, then I think we just found the hit single.
- Yesterday marked the 2000th US military fatality in Iraq - not counting non-military, and non-US fatalties....
- Close friends of mine spent their worst night yet in the hospital.
