NOHspace Presents

CALL FOR PROPOSALS 2008-09

NOHspace Presents (NsP – formerly known as Yugen Presents) is a program of Theatre of Yugen designed to showcase emerging as well as established experimental and Asian-based performing artists and groups. Sponsored artists are given rehearsal time, 14 hours of technician time (simple lighting designs okay), and publicity (artist is responsible for own marketing creation and expenses) leading up to a two night engagement at NOHspace.

The modest box office income from our 55 seat theater ($15 tickets) is split with the artist. Unfortunately, we have no means to support travel and lodging for out-of-town artists. Related workshops and outreach activities may also be proposed.

We are currently welcoming proposals for our 2008-09 season (our 30th anniversary) which will host 4 artists at the following time periods:

• November 17-18, 2008
• January 12-13, 2009
• April 6-7, 2009
• September 14-15, 2009

We select groups from all genres - theater, dance, music - that reflect the kind of work we do. We look for one or more of these qualities to be reflected in the proposal:

• physically-based
• experimental or avant-garde
• original work in progress
• traditional and contemporary Asian forms
• Japanese or Japanese-American heritage

If you would like to put forward a proposal for consideration, please write a short description of your work to be presented, estimate what your needs would be for tech, indicate which of our performance time periods works for you, include a bio, and if possible, a sample of your work or a website link.
